“I visualize a time when we will be to robots what dogs are to humans“, “Artificial Intelligence is far more dangerous than nukes“, and “The development of full Artificial Intelligence could spell the end of human races.” These are some warnings by Claude Shannon, Elon Musk, and Stephen Hawking. But what is meant by the term Artificial Intelligence? Why has Artificial Intelligence the potential to enslave humans? How is Artificial Intelligence a grave threat to human survival? (Are there any benefits of Artificial Intelligence?) and what can be the possible measures to address the threats posed by Artificial Intelligence? This essay will dwell/look upon these questions in detail. Artificial Intelligence is the ability of a machine to do/perform tasks that humans usually perform because these tasks require human intelligence and decision. However, the development of Artificial Intelligence without clear/prescribed/certain boundaries is posing/presenting existential threats to humans. This can be well-articulated from the fact that it has increased privacy concerns, discouraged individual liberty, and surged fake news content. Further, manipulation of public opinion, restriction of decision-making, and automation of nuclear weapons are some of the grave threats posed/caused/created by Artificial Intelligence for human existence. Though Artificial Intelligence has increased the threats to human survival, with the help of strict government regulations, Digital Geneva Convention, and data access rights for individuals, these threats can be addressed.
