The Himalayas mountain range contains 14 peaks that are higher than 8,000 meters (26,247 feet) in elevation. These peaks, also known as the “Eight-Thousanders,” are considered some of the tallest and most challenging mountains in the world and attract thousands of mountaineers and trekkers every year. The highest peak in the Himalayas and the world is Mount Everest, which stands at an elevation of 8,848 meters (29,032 feet). The other 13 peaks in the range that are over 8,000 meters in elevation include K2 (also known as Mount Godwin-Austen), Kangchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Nanga Parbat, Annapurna, Shishapangma, Gasherbrum I, Broad Peak, and Gasherbrum II.
