Meaning:
Use in sentence: Fried chicken, tender and crispy, was a smash hit at the dinner party.

(ii) Murphy’s law
Meaning:
Use in sentence: It is Murphy’s law that in this school, when the teacher comes the students do not come and when the students come the teacher is transferred.

(iii) Place in the Sun
Meaning:
Use in sentence: My father certainly earned a piece in the Sun.

(iv) Wooden spoon
Meaning:
Use in sentence: Owing to the lack of practice, our team took a wooden spoon in the intercollegiate debating contest.

(v) Go bananas
Meaning:
Use in sentence: She went bananas when I told her that someone smashed into her car.

(vi) Beard the Lion in his den
Meaning:
Use in sentence: He bearded the lion in his den to get charge of his office.

(vii) Groan inwardly
Meaning:
Use in sentence: Jalal’s parents were quite angry at his behaviour with his uncle but looking at the situation they groaned inwardly.

(viii) Chicken out
Meaning:
Use in sentence: He wanted to take part in the contest but suddenly he decided to chicken out.
