General Pervez Musharraf joined the Pakistan Army in 1964. After completing his initial training at Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) in Kakul, he was commissioned into the Pakistan Army’s elite Armored Corps. During his long military career, Musharraf held a number of key command and staff appointments, including Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), Commander of Special Services Group (SSG), and Corps Commander of IV Corps. His rise through the ranks culminated in his appointment as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) in 1998, after the retirement of General Jehangir Karamat.
