Lake Urmia (also known as Urmia Salt Lake) is the largest lake in Iran and the sixth-largest saltwater lake in the world. It is located in the northwest of Iran, between the provinces of East Azerbaijan and West Azerbaijan. The lake has been facing environmental challenges in recent years, including a sharp decrease in water level and increased salinity due to climate change, agricultural irrigation, and dam construction. Efforts are underway to address these issues and preserve the lake’s ecological balance.
