Introduction on Social Media & Changing Relationships

The World’s population stands at 7.91 billion and the number of internet users has touched 4.95 billion. Moreover, there are nearly 4.62 billion active social media users, and every 6.4 seconds a new account is being created. Every user has an average of 7.6 social media accounts and the average spending time of a user is around 142 minutes every single day. Moreover, social media has deteriorated sincere and intimate relationships, increased privacy concerns, and created the issue of fake news. On the contrary, Social media has removed the barrier of communication between individuals.  The increasing use of social media has increased the culture of tolerance between nations. Likewise, social media is helping governments in improving the governance system by directly communicating with citizens and is allowing businesses in expanding business online by interacting with global customers. Though social media is also negatively influencing relationships by deteriorating sincere relationships, manipulating public opinions, and increasing the threat of cybercrimes, yet, on a holistic level, it is positively changing relationships between individuals, nations, businesses, and governance, thus offsetting its harms and transforming the world into a truly global community.
