The sum of three numbers is 98. If the ratio of the first to the second is 2 : 3 and that of the second to the third is 5 : 8, then the second number is?

A. 20
B. 30
C. 48
D. 58

B. 30

Let the three numbers be A,B and C respectively
A:B = 2:3 ———— i
B:C = 5:8 ———— ii

Multiplying (i) by 5 and (ii) by 3,

A:B = 10:15
B:C = 15:24

A:B:C=10:15:24

Sum of ratio = 10+15+24=49
B = (15/49)*90
B = 30

In what ratio should the profit be divided if M, N, O invests capital in ratio 2:3:5 and their timing of their investments are in the ratio 4:5:6.

A. 8:15:30
B. 5:18:28
C. 4:5:6
D. 2:3:5

A. 8:15:30

Let the three ratio be P1, P2 and P3.

M, N, O invests in ratio 2:3:5

and their timing of investments are in the ratio 4:5:6

so we have to multiply invest ratio with their timings.

So,

P1:P2:P3=(2*4):(3*5):(5*6)

P1:P2:P3=8:15:30

What is the ratio of Faheem’s salary to Imran’s salary to Naveed’s salary if Faheem makes 80,000 rupees ,Imran 70,000 rupees and Naveed makes 50,000 rupees ?

A. 80:70:60
B. 8:7:5
C. 4:7:5
D. 7:8:5

B. 8:7:5

Faheem : Imran : Naveed

   80000 : 70000 : 50000

Two students appeared at an examination. One of them secured 9 marks more than the other and his marks was 56% of the sum of their marks. The marks obtained by them are:

A. 39, 30
B. 41, 32
C. 42, 33
D. 43, 34

C. 42, 33

Let one of the students secure x marks.

then, the other student secures (x+9) marks.

the sum of both their marks is equal to

56% of the sum of both means

56% of x+x+9 (x+9 obtained 56% marks when we both students marks)

or

(56/100)* x+x+9

so,

x+9=56% of (x+x+9)

x+9=(56/100)*(2x+9)

x+9=(112x+504)/100

100(x+9)=112x+504

100x+900=112x+504

900-504=112x-100x

396=12x

396/12=x

33=x

or

x=33

so the mark of other student will be

x+9

33+9

42

Marks obtained by both students are 33 and 42.

40% of a number is more than 20% of 650 by 190. Find the number?

A. 600
B. 700
C. 800
D. 900

C. 800

Let the number be x.

40% of a number means: (40/100) * x

20% of 650 means: (20/100)*650

by means = 190

So,

(40/100)*x is more than (20/100) * 650 means (40/100)*x is higher than (20/100)*650

Therefore,

(40/100)*x-(20/100)*650=190

40x/100-(20*650)/100=190

2x/5-130=190

2x/5=190+130

2x/5=320

2x=320*5

2x=1600

x=1600/2

x=800 (Answer)
